This 5 day, 6 night residential course will not only provide you with an HSE recognised First Aid at Work certification (valid for 3 years) you will also participate in lectures and workshops from doctors, medics, paramedics and others working in the field of emergency medicine and humanitarian rescue. Each day offers a part of the AP Casualty Care Qualification, along with workshops or lectures given by a medical professional working in diverse sectors of the emergency and medical services.

Our healthcare experts will share the paths that have led them everywhere from NHS A&E departments to the far reaches of the world delivering emergency care. Learn about what it’s like to work in such high pressure but rewarding environments, discuss which training or university programs are relevant to your interests, or which medical career options may suit you best. In addition to looking great on your applications for further study, this course will give you an honest and true reflection of what is required to work in a fast paced and stressful environment.

You will also experience some simulated rescue scenario’s, both on land and in the water, putting your knowledge to the test. All equipment, including wetsuits, buoyancy aids, helmets etc… will be provided.

We want to encourage those that are passionate about lifesaving and further study or a career in the emergency services. The course is intense, and deals with lots of in depth information about the body and trauma. You should be prepared for a full-on 5 days of learning, but most importantly meeting like-minded people and working together to help other people in their time of need.

‘The course was designed for 16 and 17 year olds that are interested in pursuing medicine related subjects. Not only did they get some really great training in Casualty Care/first aid, they also received some really inspiring talks including the founder of the charity and medical professionals. This was just one of the many courses that they run to inspire young people into search & rescue and drowning prevention. Amazing what they do as a young charity and they have so much potential to change lives.’

Course Topics

Casualty Care Course

Introduction to Medicine will include the Casualty Care Course, a programme originally developed for casualty care training in maritime search and rescue. This comprehensive course can be used for lifesaving everywhere, whether for work, volunteering, or in day-to-day life. It qualifies for HSE First Aid at Work certification, which is valid for 3 years.

The course uses a unique aide-memoire check card system, which massively reduces stress during high-pressure situations and leaves participants equipped to treat more illnesses and injuries than most first aid courses. It is accessible for beginners but remains relevant for trained first-aiders or medical professionals who wish to learn a system for casualty care that is thorough and methodical.

Additionally, topics covered could include:

  • Working in the Ambulance Service / as a paramedic
  • Working as a doctor in A&E
  • Working as a medic in search and rescue at sea
  • Introduction to medics working in disaster / remote areas
  • Introduction to medics working in remote regions
  • Universities and career routes into medicine
